Cambodia marks Visak Bochea Day



PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Cambodian on Saturday celebrated Visak Bochea Day or Boddha's Day. 

The massive ceremony is held at Odong, Cambodia's former city, where the relics of Buddha's are enshrined, and is attended by two Great Supreme Patriarch, Tep Vong ep Vong, head of the Mohanikaya Buddhist sect, Bou Kry, head of the Thammayut Buddhist sect, along with parliament president Heng Samrin, and other senior officials. 

Visak Bochea Day marks the anniversary of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death 

The religious holiday is held annually in Cambodia where 90 percent of the country's estimated 14.7 million citizens are Buddhists.

At the event, worshipers pray to the Lord Buddha by lighting candles, incense sticks and laying flowers before his statues and relics and they also give offerings of food and money to Buddhist monks in dedication of their deceased relatives.
