ADB chief pledges continued support to Cambodia for socio-economic development

PHNOM PENH, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao on Tuesday pledged to provide continued support to Cambodia for socio-economic development, a Cambodian spokesman said.
Nakao made the pledge during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace, Eang Sophalleth, a spokesman for Hun Sen, told reporters after the meeting.
"Cambodia is a fair society and I have a very positive view on Cambodia," Eang Sophalleth quoted Nakao as saying to Hun Sen. "ADB is very proud to be a partner of Cambodia and will continue working with Cambodia, particularly in the fields of public reforms, rural development, and regional integration."
Nakao said it was his second visit to Cambodia after the first in 2001.
For his part, Hun Sen thanked ADB for supporting Cambodia in socio-economic development.
He said Cambodia targets the annual economic growth of seven percent for a medium term and reduces poverty rate at least one percent a year.

He said the nation's poverty rate had fallen from 53 percent in 2004 to 18 percent in 2014.
Nakao started a two-day visit to Cambodia on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, he met separately with Cambodian finance minister and education minister.
According to an ADB's press release, Nakao discussed recent economic and mid-term challenges, and explored ADB's possible support to help the Cambodian government address development challenges.
