Assembly’s 2nd Deputy President [Nguon Nhel] Gets 63 Advisers

BY  | OCTOBER 23, 2014
A Royal Decree signed by acting head of state Chea Sim has approved the appointment of 63 advisers and assistants to National Assembly Second Vice President Nguon Nhel, according to a copy of the document obtained Wednesday.
The new appointments in the document, which was signed by Mr. Sim in the absence of King Norodom Sihamoni on September 15, include CPP lawmakers Nhem Thavy and Sik Bunhok.
The news of the appointments comes a month after National Assembly First Vice President Kem Sokha, who is also vice president of the opposition CNRP, came under fire for appointing a team of 21 advisers to his office.
CNRP chief whip Son Chhay on Wednesday criticized the length of Mr. Nhel’s new list of advisers, which includes three people who share Mr. Nhel’s family name.
“A long time ago we have seen the advisers of Nguon Nhel, they were his relatives and they just appoint them to take money or use their names as advisers to do wrong,” he said.
Mr. Nhel could not be reached and National Assembly spokesman Chheang Vun, also a CPP lawmaker, declined to comment.
