Ex-deputy of Sar Kheng gets year in prison [Hun Sen is trying to purge all Sar Kheng's loyalists like Moek Dara, and now, Suong Veasna]

A former deputy assistant to Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng was sentenced to one year in prison and $5,000 in fines in Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday for defrauding a Chinese national, promising him Cambodian citizenship.
Suong Veasna, 54, who worked in the Ministry of Interior as assistant to the ministry’s head, was convicted of charging businessman Taing Heng Sea $38,000 for Cambodian citizenship in 2012, which would have made it easier for the victim to conduct business in the Kingdom.
“He took $38,000 from the victim, saying he could get the victim Cambodian citizenship,” In Bora, chief of the Ministry of Interior’s penal police department, said of Veasna. “He promised the victim he would get him citizenship within a month, but he failed to do it and did not return the money.”
Veasna was arrested on December 24.
In addition to the prison time and fines, Veasna must return the $38,000 he initially received.
