The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) today releases the first "fact sheet" in its "Institution" series for 2012. In the run up to the Senate elections due to be held on 29 January 2012, this fact sheet aims to provide an overview of the Senate, assess its effectiveness and suggest ways in which it could be improved. In particular, the fact sheet draws attention to the manner in which members of the Senate are elected and calls for reform in the senate selection process in the form of a system that allows candidates to stand independently, regardless of their political affiliations, and to be elected directly by the people.
